The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 May he be condemned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
