The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 and taught to him 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
