a good many of olden times, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
