Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 a warning to mortal man 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56
