۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
