The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be condemned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
