The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. 20 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
