The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 The night a covering, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
