The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
