The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 If you were to see it, you would find it to be a great kingdom with great bounty. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
