Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
