Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 “Has he chosen daughters instead of sons?” 153 What is amiss with you and your judgment? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 So you and your deities 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 except those who are doomed to enter hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]. 165 and we glorify God". 166 And indeed they used to say: 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 And indeed Our Word has already gone forth for Our bondmen who were sent. 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 and Our host -- they are the victors. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 Stay away from them for a while 178 And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
