The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
