Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
