In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
ALL PRAISE BE to God who created the heavens and the earth, and ordained darkness and light. Yet the unbelievers make the others equal of their Lord. 1 He it is who created you of clay and then decreed a term - and a term determined is with Him - yet ye waver. 2 He is God in the heavens and the earth; He knows your secrets, and what you publish, and He knows what you are earning. 3 And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they turn away therefrom. 4 And now they reject the truth when it reaches them: but soon shall they learn the reality of what they used to mock at. 5 Have they not seen how many a generation before them We have destroyed whom We had established on the earth such as We have not established you? And We poured out on them rain from the sky in abundance, and made the rivers flow under them. Yet We destroyed them for their sins, and created after them other generations. 6 And even if We had sent down to you, [O Muhammad], a written scripture on a page and they touched it with their hands, the disbelievers would say, "This is not but obvious magic." 7 They say: "How is it no angel was sent down to him?" Had We sent an angel down the matter would have come to end, and they would have had no respite. 8 Had We appointed an angel, We would have sent him down in the form of a man - and thus We would have caused them the same doubt which they now entertain. 9 Surely the apostles have been mocked before you; but what they had mocked rebounded on the mockers themselves. 10
