The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
