Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 who will be my heir as well as an heir [to the dignity] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Sustainer, well-pleasing to Thee!" 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), 13 And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or to his parents). 14 And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. 15
