And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order." 90 They replied: 'We will not stop; we will cling to it until Moses returns to us.' 91 (Musa) said: O Haroun! what prevented you, when you saw them going astray, 92 Did you disobey my orders?" 93 (Aaron) replied: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard nor by (the hair of) my head! Truly I feared lest thou shouldst say, 'Thou has caused a division among the children of Israel, and thou didst not respect my word!'" 94 (Moses) said: And what hast thou to say, O Samiri? 95 He said: I perceived what they perceive not, so I seized a handful from the footsteps of the messenger, and then threw it in. Thus my soul commended to me. 96 Musa said: begone thou! verily it shall be thine in life to say no contact; and verily thine is an appointment which thou shalt by no means fail. And look at thy god to which thou hast been assiduous; we shall surely burn it, and we shall scatter it into the sea a wide scattering. 97 Your Allah is only Allah, than Whom there is no other Allah. He embraceth all things in His knowledge. 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 If any do turn away therefrom, verily they will bear a burden on the Day of judgment; 100 And will live for ever under it. How evil the burden they will carry on the Day of Doom! 101 On the day when the trumpet shall be blown, and We will gather the guilty, blue-eyed, on that day 102 They will slowly talk to each other and say, "Our life on earth was as short as ten days". 103 We know best what they will say, when their leader most eminent in conduct will say: "Ye tarried not longer than a day!" 104
