Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
