NAY, but consider the moon! 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 As a warning unto men, 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 about the sinners. 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
