Observedest thou him who turned away? 33 who at first gave a little, then later held back? 34 Does he [claim to] have knowledge of something that is beyond the reach of human perception, so that he can see [it clearly]? 35 Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses 36 and about Abraham who fulfilled his duty (to God)? 37 Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another; 38 nor can man achieve anything without hard labor. 39 And that his striving shall soon be seen- 40 and that he shall then be fully recompensed, 41 and that with thy Sustainer is the beginning and the end [of all that exists]; 42 And that it is He (Allah) Who makes (whom He wills) laugh, and makes (whom He wills) weep; 43 And that it is He who causes death and gives life 44 That He did create in pairs,- male and female, 45 from an ejaculated drop (of sperm), 46 And that upon Him (Allah) is another bringing forth (Resurrection); 47 And that it is He Who enricheth and preserveth property. 48 And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); 49 And that He destroyed the former 'A-ad. 50 And Samood, so He spared not 51 And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious; 52 And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent]. 53 and caused them to be covered with that which He covered them with. 54 Which of your Lord's benefits will you then dispute about? 55 THIS IS a warning like those warnings of old: 56 The threatened Hour is nigh. 57 and none but Allah can avert it. 58 Do you, perchance, find this tiding strange? 59 and do they laugh instead of weeping, 60 indulging in carelessly idle games? 61 But fall ye down in prostration to Allah, and adore (Him)! ۩ 62
