Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
