The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15
