The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a host of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water gushing, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
