The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They would not believe in it (the Quran), and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
