So they both proceeded: until, when they were in the boat, he scuttled it. Said Moses: "Hast thou scuttled it in order to drown those in it? Truly a strange thing hast thou done!" 71 He replied: "Did I not tell you that you will not be able to patiently bear with me?" 72 Musa said: take me not to task for what I forget, and impose not in my affair hardship. 73 So they went on until, when they met a boy, he slew him. (Musa) said: Have you slain an innocent person otherwise than for manslaughter? Certainly you have done an evil thing. 74 ۞ Said he, 'Did I not say that thou couldst never bear with me patiently?' 75 Moses said, "If I ask you such questions again, abandon me; you will have enough reason to do so." 76 So they went on until they came to a town. They asked its people for food, but were refused hospitality. They found a wall in the town which was about to fall down. His companion buttressed it and Moses said, "Had you wished, you could have demanded payment for your labours." 77 He said: This shall be separation between me and you; now I will inform you of the significance of that with which you could not have patience. 78 That boat belonged to poor people who used to toil on the sea. I damaged it because there was a king after them who used to seize every ship by force. 79 "As for the youth, his parents were people of Faith, and we feared that he would grieve them by obstinate rebellion and ingratitude (to Allah and man). 80 "So we desired that their Lord would give them in exchange (a son) better in purity (of conduct) and closer in affection. 81 As for that wall, it belonged to two orphan boys of the city, and their treasure was buried under it. Their father was an upright man. So your Lord willed that on reaching the age of maturity they should dig out their treasure as a favour from their Lord. So, I did not do that of my own accord. This is the explanation of things you could not bear with patience." 82
