The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and continuous shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
