The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 over it are nineteen. 30 For We have caused none but angelic powers to lord over the fire [of hell]; and We have not caused their number to be aught but a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth - to the end that they who have been granted revelation aforetime might be convinced [of the truth of this divine writ]; and that they who have attained to faith [in it] might grow yet more firm in their faith; and that [both] they who have been granted the earlier revelation and they who believe [in this one] might be freed of all doubt; and that they in whose hearts is disease and they who deny the truth outright might ask, "What does [your] God mean by this parable?" In this way God lets go astray him that wills [to go astray,] and guides aright him that wills [to be guided]. And none can comprehend thy Sustainers forces save Him alone: and all this is but a reminder to mortal man. 31

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
