He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
