In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
