The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Woe to the defrauders, 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 on a Great Day, 5 A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense. 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 Then indeed they have to enter hell. 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 A book inscribed, 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 upon couches gazing; 23 and in their faces you shall know the radiance of bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 when they passed by them, they would wink at one another; 30 and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. 31 and when they saw them said: 'These are they who are astray' 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? 36
