He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
