Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
