The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
