The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for such as ask [for help] and such as are deprived [of what is good in life]; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
