He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
