The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
