The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
