By the moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 a warning to mortal man 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. 56
