Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
