We sent Moses to the Pharaoh and his nobles with Our miracles and he said, "I am the Messenger of the Lord of the Universe". 46 but when he came to them with Our signs, they ridiculed them, 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 But they said: "O sorcerer, call on your Lord for us in accordance with the compact He has made with you. We shall certainly come to guidance." 49 So when We averted the calamity from them, they immediately broke the promise! 50 And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Is not mine the dominion of Egypt, and these rivers flowing underneath me. See you not then? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible (man), who can scarcely make things clear (because of the impediment of his speech)? 52 “So why was he not bestowed with armlets of gold? Or angels should have come with him staying at his side!” 53 Thus he persuaded his people to make light (of Moses), and they obeyed him. Lo! they were a wanton folk. 54 When at length they provoked Us, We exacted retribution from them, and We drowned them all. 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
