The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 And the roof exalted, 5 And the swollen sea 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
