So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time? 30 Say: 'Await! I shall be awaiting with you.' 31 Does their reasoning prompt them to this, or they are a people rebellious? 32 What! They say, “He has invented the Qur'an”? Rather they do not have faith. 33 So let them bring a single discourse like it, if they are truthful. 34 Or were they created out of naught? Or are they the creators? 35 Created they the heavens and the earth! Aye! they will not be convinced. 36 Or are the Treasures of thy Lord with them, or are they the managers (of affairs)? 37 Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest! 38 Or has He daughters while you have sons? 39 Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt? 40 Or possess they the Unseen so that they can write (it) down? 41 Or do they want to entrap [thee in contradictions]? But they who are bent on denying the truth - it is they who are truly entrapped! 42 Or, do they have a god, other than Allah? Exaltations to Allah above that which they associate! 43 (So obstinate are they that) even if they were to see some fragments of the sky falling down they would still say: “It is only a mass of cloud.” 44 Therefore leave them, until they confront their day, in which they will be stunned. 45 The day on which their struggle shall not avail them aught, nor shall they be helped. 46 And verily for those who do wrong there is a torment before that; but most of them know not. 47 And be patient under the Judgement of your Lord, surely, you are before Our Eyes. And exalt with the praise of your Lord when you arise, 48 and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars. 49
