The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
