He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
