Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 Of a related orphan, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
