The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
