The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And the swollen sea 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
