The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 But We see it very near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 who guard their privates 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
