The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), 1 By the meteors rushing, 2 by those that swim serenely 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 The day on which the quaking one shall quake, 6 And the following event will come after it. 7 Hearts that Day will be in agitation; 8 and their eyes will be humbled. 9 They say: “Shall we indeed be restored to life, 10 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” 11 They say: "Then this returning will be a dead loss." 12 It will be only one scaring shout, 13 When, behold, they find themselves over the earth alive after their death, 14 Has the story of Moses reached thee? 15 His Lord called out to him by the sacred valley of Tuwa: 16 [saying], "Go to Pharaoh, he has exceeded all bounds, 17 and say: "Will you purify yourself, 18 that I may direct you to your Lord and then you hold Him in awe?'” 19 So he showed him the greater sign; 20 Yet he belied and disobeyed. 21 Then turned he away in haste, 22 and gathered his people together 23 and proclaimed, "I am your supreme Lord," 24 you pay attention 25 In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God. 26
